A Different Perspective – A New Generation

A Different Perspective – A New Generation
by Linda F Martinez

I’ve grown up in a generation that has in all probability witnessed the most and swiftest changes than any other generation throughout history.

When you think about it the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, even with all their earthly treasures, could not travel any faster than their horses could carry them. Some three thousand years later, George Washington couldn’t go any faster than his horse could carry him. As we fast forward less than two hundred years from the time of Washington, man had the capability of traveling at the speed of sound. As a matter of fact it was in 1947 that Chuck Yeager, United States Air Force officer, flying ace, and record setting test pilot, became the first pilot confirmed to have exceeded the speed of sound in level flight.

The very first motion picture film, showing actual consecutive action, in black and white of course and without sound, was made in 1888 lasting only 2.11 seconds. A little more than twenty years later in 1900, the first movie with both color and sound was made. It took immensely large reels to put the film on and we sat in theaters that projected the movies from a small room above the seating area. If the film were to accidently snap in the middle of a scene, which was not uncommon as many times as the film was played, we would have to wait patiently while it was rethreaded and started again.
Today when we go to theaters we are entertained for hours with surround sound alongside three and four dimensional theatrical performances that give us the sensation of actually being a part of the production. And now, we are capable of encompassing ourselves with that same technology in the privacy of our own homes with small round disks inserted into a DVD or Blue Ray player.

Communication over the years has come from such methods as couriers walking or traveling by horseback  as was in the days of the Pony Express and even ships crossing the ocean to bring news and information to now having instant, faster than the speed of light technology. In less than a split second we are capable of making contact with people practically anywhere around the globe. Not to mention having the ability to communicate from millions of miles and even light years into outer space.
I remember going to Disneyland sometime in the late 50’s when it first opened (yep I’m old!) and I recollect being quite fascinated by one of the areas called “Tomorrow Land” where there was a venue of modernizations for the home of the future. Things like automatic washing machines, toaster ovens, pushbutton telephones capable of projecting the image of the person whom you were talking to. These were things that may seem quite silly to the current generation who are being born with even more highly advanced technology already accessible to them.
In the same area was a ride called “Rocket to the Moon”. It featured a powerful simulation of what it would actually be like to travel into outer space. It was only ten years later that the Apollo 11 blasted off on July 16, 1969 with three astronauts; Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins on board and safely landed them on the moon and brought them back to earth all in one piece while the world watched on breathless and amazed at what had just taken place.
Even the possibility of arriving into the new millennium was, for me as a kid, something so futuristic it looked as if it would be more like a panorama out of an H.G. Wells science fiction novel than a realism that I would become a part of. Needless to say, I have since arrived into the future.
In spite of all the sophisticated technology that has driven us into an age of what I call, the “Instant or ‘Me’ Generation” our moral precepts are incessantly being reverted back to an epoch of barbarianism.
The division of moral discernment has been following a path of desolation all throughout the history of mankind and now it looks as if we have just about reached the pinnacle of self destruction. The chasm of divergence and total disdain among friends and family members has widened immensely and even more so just since the outcome of the last presidential election. Folks have become downright hateful toward one another.
All this should come to us as no surprise, however, seeing how that pre-recorded history has always been available for us to examine in the prophetic and sound doctrine of GOD’s Word. He has not kept it a secret.
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God…”(2 Timothy 3:1-4 KJV)
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased,” (Daniel 12:4 KJV) “Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth”.(2 Timothy 3:7 KJV)
It all sounds pretty harsh doesn’t it and it’s amazing how that the prophets were given such insight into the future developments of mankind.
Have no fear though… GOD has a plan!
